One application can include a partner and dependent children aged 19 or younger (INZ). The fee and levy are charged once, while the calculator adds the IVL for each person. The Fees Guide marks the levy and IVL with an asterisk because they do not apply to every visitor visa. A visitor visa for the partner or dependent child of a New Zealander is $341, with no IVL (INZ). A group visitor visa is charged per person: $271 each.

Add the people on your application and where you apply from. The fee and levy stay the same, the IVL grows with each person.

Full cost guides
Each guide has worked examples, when you pay what, and legal ways to pay less.
Every INZ fee, levy and IVL in one table
Three examples
- One adult visiting family, applying from outside NZ: $441.
- A couple and one child from India on a single application. One fee and one levy cover the group, and the IVL is added for three people. See the family total.
- A grandparent on a Pacific passport applying from outside NZ: $161, with a lower fee and no IVL.
When you pay each part
You create an account, upload documents and pay the fees when you apply online (INZ). The IVL is paid at that moment and is not refunded, even if the visa is declined (INZ's IVL page). Medical or X-ray evidence, when INZ asks for it, must be less than 3 months old when INZ receives it.
INZ asks for a minimum amount of money for each month of your stay, lower if accommodation is prepaid. The calculator lists it under "Not a fee, but plan for it".
Legal ways to pay less
- Passport holders from visa waiver countries may only need an NZeTA for a short stay, which is far cheaper ($117 on the app). See the NZeTA cost guide. Australian citizens and permanent residents on an Australian passport need neither (INZ).
- Putting a partner and children on one application means one fee and one levy for the whole group.
- Partners and dependent children of New Zealanders have their own visitor visa with no IVL.
- Pacific passport holders applying from outside NZ pay the lower band B fee.
Mistakes that cost money
- Not showing onward travel or the money to buy a ticket out. INZ lists this as a reason for refusal.
- Identity details that do not match the passport. INZ says these delay the application.
- Missing documents or proof of relationship for the people included on one application.
- Waiting too long to extend. INZ says to apply before the current visa expires, and the extension is a new application with new fees.
- Assuming the fee comes back if the answer is no. It does not.
Extras for this visa
INZ does not normally ask for a chest X-ray for stays under 6 months, or a medical certificate for stays under 12 months (INZ). For longer stays these estimates can apply:
- Chest X-ray, if the stay is over 6 months and INZ asks: $130–$205 per adult.
- Medical examination, for stays over 12 months: $200–$290.
- Certified translations of non-English documents: $62–$95 per document.
- Passport-style photos: $25–$35 a set.
