Being re-checked. The IVL column for this visa is blank in the Fees Guide, so the table treats it as not charged. INZ's visa page does not mention the IVL either way.
The visa is for a child whose parent is a New Zealand citizen or resident living in New Zealand. INZ's Dependent Child Resident Visa page says the parent must also have the legal right to take the child out of their home country.

Full cost guides
Each guide has worked examples, when you pay what, and legal ways to pay less.
Every INZ fee, levy and IVL in one table
Three examples
- A 9-year-old in the Philippines whose mother is a New Zealand resident: $3,230 for the application, plus a medical examination but no chest X-ray, since INZ asks for the X-ray from age 11.
- A 15-year-old already in NZ: $3,230, plus a medical examination and a chest X-ray.
- A 19-year-old child of a resident, applying from Samoa: $2,760, plus a medical examination, a chest X-ray and police certificates, because INZ asks for those from age 17.
When you pay each part
INZ wants medical evidence less than 3 months old when it is received. Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when the application is lodged, and cover the child's countries of citizenship and any country where they spent 12 months or more in the last 10 years. The fee and levy are paid with the application.
Legal ways to pay less
- Police certificates are only asked for at age 17 or older, so a younger child has none to pay for.
- Children under 11 are not asked for a chest X-ray, which removes that cost.
- The Pacific fee band applies to the listed Pacific countries, as the table shows.
- Several children can have the same parent. INZ's page does not say whether siblings may share one application, and the calculator prices one child's application.
Mistakes that cost money
- Applying for a child who is 18 to 24 with a child of their own. INZ says children in that age range must have no children of their own.
- Leaving out evidence of financial dependence for a child aged 21 to 24, which INZ requires.
- Lodging with a police certificate that is over 6 months old.
- Applying without the legal right to take the child out of their home country, which INZ lists as a requirement for the parent.
- Overlooking that INZ says a criminal conviction or being a security risk may prevent a visa.
Extras for this visa
Medical and police rules are on INZ's visa page and its pages on medical examinations and police certificates. Estimates:
- Medical examination: $200–$290 (the range mixes adult and child prices).
- Chest X-ray, from age 11: $130–$205.
- Police certificates, from age 17: $44–$72 each.
- Certified English translations of non-English birth certificates and similar: $62–$95 per document.
