Partner work visa cost: one fee and levy per partner
A partner work visa costs $1,630 for one applicant, wherever they apply from, made up of an INZ fee of $570 and an immigration levy of $1,060. The fee table shows no visitor levy (IVL) on this visa. Each partner applies and pays on their own application.
Fees as at 7 November 2026, checked against INZ.

One fee line covers two INZ visas: the Partner of a New Zealander Work Visa and the Partner of a Worker Work Visa. Both let the partner work and study for up to 3 months, and neither needs a New Zealand job offer.
Work out your own total
INZ says dependent children cannot be included in a partner work visa application. The calculator counts one application per adult.

Full cost guides
Each guide has worked examples, when you pay what, and legal ways to pay less.
Every INZ fee, levy and IVL in one table
Three examples
- The partner of a resident, applying from India or anywhere outside the Pacific: $1,630.
- The same partner already in NZ on another visa: $1,630.
- A partner with children: the partner pays $1,630, and each child's own visa is a separate cost because INZ says children cannot be included.
A lower-cost alternative that does not allow work is the partner visitor visa at $341, but INZ says you cannot work in New Zealand on a visitor visa (INZ).
When you pay each part
The fee and levy are paid when the application is submitted. Health and police evidence come with it. INZ says X-ray or medical results must be less than 3 months old when received, and police certificates less than 6 months old when you apply.
Legal ways to pay less
- If the supporting partner is a New Zealander, a visa of 1 year or up to 3 years is granted depending on how long the couple has lived together. Where it is 1 year, INZ says further visas can be applied for to reach 3 years in total.
- Where the supporting partner holds a work visa, approval is normally for the same length as that visa, so the supporter's visa sets the length (INZ).
Mistakes that cost money
- Applying when the supporting work visa cannot support one. INZ lists visas valid for 6 months or less, working holiday visas and several seasonal and specific-purpose visas as unable to.
- Assuming any wage will do. For an AEWV holder in ANZSCO levels 4 or 5 who is not under a sector agreement, INZ sets a separate hourly pay threshold, and its page lists the current rates.
- Leaving out evidence that the couple live together, which INZ requires.
- Putting children on the application. INZ says they cannot be included, and they apply for their own visas.
- Expecting work rights on a visitor visa. INZ says there are none.
Extras for this visa
INZ says a chest X-ray or medical examination may be needed, and the X-ray is generally not needed for stays under 6 months. Police certificates may be required at 17 or older when total time in NZ will be 24 months or more (INZ). Estimates:
- Medical examination, if INZ asks: $200–$290.
- Chest X-ray, if INZ asks: $130–$205 per adult.
- Police certificates, if required: $44–$72 each.
- Certified English translations: $62–$95 per document.
