Visa transfer cost: the fee depends on label or eVisa
Moving a visa into a new passport costs $225 from outside NZ, or $225 in NZ, when the visa label is physically transferred. A listed Pacific passport applying from outside NZ pays $170. INZ's form page says there is no fee for an eVisa, so the label is the part that page prices. There is no immigration levy.
Fees as at 7 November 2026, checked against INZ.
What INZ charges for a label transfer
| Where you apply from | Application fee | Immigration levy | Visitor levy (IVL) | INZ total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| I'm in NZ | $225 | $0 | $0 | $225 |
| Overseas, Pacific passport | $170 | $0 | $0 | $170 |
| Overseas, other passport | $225 | $0 | $0 | $225 |

INZ's transfer or confirmation form page says the fee applies only for a physical visa label, paid after the form is submitted, and that someone needing a label must also send their passport to INZ. INZ's eVisa and label page says a label is not needed to travel to, enter or stay in NZ.

Being re-checked. The Fees Guide has a row for confirmation of immigration status, but INZ's form page says there is no fee for an eVisa or a confirmation letter, so the two INZ sources differ. INZ's fee finder shows the amount for a given case. The form page lists who can use the form: holders of an expired, lost, stolen or damaged passport, people whose name has changed, Australian citizens and permanent residents living in NZ who need evidence of status, and people unsure of their status.

Full cost guides
Each guide has worked examples, when you pay what, and legal ways to pay less.
Every INZ fee, levy and IVL in one table
Three examples
- A work visa holder in Hamilton whose passport expires next month and who asks for an eVisa: no INZ fee, according to the form page. Asking for a label instead adds $225.
- A resident visa holder with a renewed passport who wants a sticker in it for travel: $225. INZ's permanent resident page says the visa must be transferred before travelling on the new passport.
- A family of four applying from outside NZ. Open the calculator for two adults and two children.
When you pay each part
There is nothing to pay up front. INZ says the label fee is paid after the online form is submitted through a RealMe login. Uploaded documents must be a single PDF, JPG or JPEG file under 3 MB each. A holder of a Skilled Migrant Category Interim Visa uses a separate transfer form.
Legal ways to pay less
- An eVisa transfer has no INZ fee, so a physical label is optional. INZ says proof of the visa can come from an eVisa letter or from logging into the Visa Verification Service.
- The Fees Guide says fee waivers for certain countries do not apply to the label transfer fee, so a waiver never lowers this charge.
- INZ's form page also says there is no fee for a confirmation letter.
Mistakes that cost money
- Travelling on the new passport before the visa is moved. INZ says the visa must be transferred before the new passport is used to travel.
- Choosing a label when an eVisa would do, which adds the fee for no reason INZ requires.
- Uploading files over 3 MB or in a format other than PDF, JPG or JPEG, which the form does not accept.
- Using the standard form when an SMC Interim Visa needs its own.
- Assuming an airline accepts an eVisa without checking. INZ says checking departure and transit requirements with the relevant authorities and the airline is the traveller's responsibility.
Extras for this visa
The form page asks for a passport copy and supporting documents. A label means sending the passport to INZ, and the calculator has no courier price because none could be verified.
